Women’s volleyball beats Union 3-1

Rochester, New York – RIT sophomore outside hitter Liv Benard posted a career-high 25 kills and added 10 digs for her seventh double-double of the season in a 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21) Liberty League win over visiting Union at added friday .

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • RIT opened a 5-1 lead in the first set and led 9-4 before Union scored four straight points to draw within one at 9-8. The Tigers responded with three straight points and started a 6-2 run en route to a 15-10 lead. The Dutch withdrew 16-12 within four, but RIT put on a 7-1 run to a 23-13 lead it wasn’t about to give up.
  • Tie, 9-9, in the second, the Tigers assembled a 7-3 run for a 16-12 lead. Union came back to level the set 18-18 but RIT won seven of the last eight points to eliminate the set.
  • Union took an early 10-4 lead and led 13-6 before the Tigers hit an 11-2 run to take a 17-15 lead. Union regrouped to take a 22-21 lead, eventually scoring back-to-back points to break a 24-24 tie and earn third place.
  • Tie 12-12 in the fourth set, RIT scored six points in a row for an 18-12 lead. Union came back to one at 22-21, but the Tigers scored three unanswered goals to end the game.

GAME NOTES

  • Junior Setter Sydney Neff recorded a season-high 47 assists and 13 digs.
  • Middle blocker for graduate students Calista Gasper finished with 11 kills and three total blocks (1 solo) and finished with a match-high attack percentage of .421.
  • Junior Libero Hailey Blixt a total of 13 digs and six service aces.

WHAT’S NEXT

RIT host Vassar in the last home game of the regular season on Saturday (22/10) at 14:00 CEST. The winner secures a seat in the Liberty League tournament while the other is eliminated from the post-season competition.
