GREEN BAY — The University of Wisconsin Green Bay-Milwaukee women’s home-and-home basketball series scheduled for January 21-23 has been canceled due to COVID health and safety protocols within the Milwaukee program.
This is the seventh game the Phoenix have canceled or postponed this season due to COVID.
Horizon League policy, which has been reviewed by multiple membership groups and approved by the Horizon League Council, states that competitions canceled due to COVID will be forfeited unless the commissioner deems them not to be a competition.
The league policy empowers the commissioner to consider a cancellation as a no-win if the institution involved can demonstrate that extraordinary circumstances led to the cancellation.
Given the increase in positive cases due to the Omicron variant, the Council agreed that a high number of breakthrough cases in vaccinated individuals is considered exceptional.
Milwaukee has attempted to consider the missed contests as no contests.
Pending a review, the league will decide at a later date whether these games will count as lost or no contests.
If the games are ruled a no-contest, Green Bay and Milwaukee could consider future dates for makeup.
In the meantime, the Phoenix are reviewing opportunities to play another opponent tonight, January 21.
If Green Bay is playing at the Kress Center, fans who have tickets to the Milwaukee game will get free entry.
If the Phoenix can’t find another opponent and can’t find a new date against Milwaukee, fans who purchased single-game tickets can receive a refund.
Season ticket holders have the option to exchange their tickets for a future regular-season game or receive a refund upon request.
Fans who have requested a refund for previous cancellations will automatically be added to the refund list for that cancellation as well.
Contact the Phoenix Ticket Office at 920-465-2625 or email [email protected] to request a refund.
Ticket holders who do not request an exchange or refund for this game will receive the value of their tickets in support of Phoenix Athletics.
