Police are investigating the “conspiracy” behind Swapna’s allegations against him, the Prime Minister and his family, following a complaint by former Minister KT Jaleel

Swapna Suresh has asked the court to order the police to stop harassing her “in the name of investigating the conspiracy” she allegedly committed

Swapna Suresh has filed a complaint in Kerala High Court alleging that police threatened her and forced her to disclose the content of her Section 164 testimony in the Ernakulam Magistrate’s Court in relation to the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

In the petition, filed with the Supreme Court on July 8, she claimed police threatened to make her a defendant in 770 cases registered across Kerala after opposition parties protested against the prime minister. She asked the court to order the police to stop harassing her “in the name of investigating the conspiracy she allegedly committed.” Police are investigating the “conspiracy” behind Swapna’s allegations against him, the Prime Minister and his family, following a complaint by former Minister KT Jaleel.

“The police summoned me for questioning on July 6th, 2022. The interrogation began around 11:00 a.m. and ended after 7:00 p.m. The police recorded the interrogation on video. Most of the time was spent harassing me to force me to disclose the details of my Section 164 CrPC statement. The police severely coerced and pressured me to disclose the evidence I gave to the Enforcement Directorate against the Prime Minister, his daughter and others. The police have also threatened me that if I don’t shun the job at HRDS and get rid of my current lawyer, they will charge me as a defendant in all 770 cases registered in the wake of opposition politicians’ agitation across Kerala. This is nothing but illegal and unjustifiable,” the petition reads The Bund accessed a copy.

HRDS terminates Swapna

Swapna has also claimed that HRDS – the NGO she was employed by – fired her because she could not stand the harassment, and she has been made unemployed. HRDS management recently told the media that they had terminated Swapna from their service. HRDS Secretary Aji Krishnan claimed that the NGO and staff have been constantly hounded by the police and tax officials since they employed Swapna.

HRDS India hired Swapna as Director of the Women Empowerment Program in February 2022. Since joining, Swapna has used HRDS premises for regular meetings with the press and has leveled allegations against the Prime Minister, his family members, former Minister KT Jaleel and former IAS officers linked to the CM. Sources said they were uncomfortable with the media glare and the constant presence of the police at HRDS premises. However, despite the termination of the post of Director, Swapna would continue to serve as an advisor to the Women’s Empowerment Program organized by HRDS.

No progress from ED

Despite repeated allegations from Swapna, the ED has been unable to make any progress in investigating the gold smuggling case. Although Swapna had claimed that the prime minister, his daughter and his wife were directly involved in dollar smuggling and other illegal activities, investigating authorities have not collected a single piece of evidence.

“The investigating authorities should have contacted me and checked my version of things if they are serious about these allegations. I was directly involved in the Chief Minister’s UAE trip in 2016,” said a retired IAS official who worked at the CM’s office The Bund. The former official claimed Swapna’s allegations were politically motivated and false.
