Pro Women’s Open Natural Olympia 2021 champion Jill Kolivoski fails drug test, speaks openly with Generation Iron

2021 Natural Olympia Women’s Professional Bodybuilding Champion, Jill Kolivoski, fails the drug test.

Jill Kolivoski, the 2021 Natural Olympia winner in the Women’s Bodybuilding Open Division, recently failed a drug test conducted at Natural Olympia. Below you can see an exclusive clip from Generation iron: Natty 4 Life articulate in more detail about the drug test they performed.

Jill Kolivoski competed in the United States Bodybuilding Federation (USBF) before returning to the International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA) / Professional Natural Bodybuilding Association (PNBA) league. In all 23 years of competition, this is their first failed drug test. Kolivoski was tested for drugs at the USBF, but a prohibited substance was never found in her system.

While the USBF is also a natural bodybuilding institution, they do not test their athletes through the same laboratory as INBA / PNBA. INBA / PNBA does not take drug testing lightly. Participants are thoroughly tested by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) – the leading drug test for professional athletes. The Olympics use this foundation and detect drugs that often go under the radar of other drug tests.

Unfortunately, Jill Kolivoski and any competitor who fail a drug test in the INBA / PNBA league land in the Hall of Shame. She also loses her title and prize money. Kolivoski understands the cause and accepts any punishment it endures.

Substance tested positive for

Jill Kolivoski tested positive for Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators (SARMs). This ingredient was found in a substance Kolivoski did not know was banned. Based on the evidence gathered, the failed drug test does not appear to be a malicious act on the part of Kolivoski. When the INBA / PNBA league asked Kolivoski if they had ever heard of the prohibited substance they found guilty of using, they said, “Absolutely not”. “Taking products that do not fit a purely natural bodybuilding life is NOT what I am and it is NOT what I live / represent day in, day out.”

Negligence and naivety put Jill Kolivoski in this predicament. She said, “I was so excited about the idea of getting back on stage that I never thought I needed to find out about supplements and prohibited products.” She admitted that she never looked at the banned substances list because she believed she was never at risk.

Jill Kolivoksi is extremely health conscious and claims to have never drank alcohol, used drugs, or taken any prescription drugs or antibiotics in her entire life. She fasts regularly and is completely organic – she restricts restaurants that don’t cater to it. Kolivoski said she only started taking supplements as a remedy for adrenal fatigue. She followed a diet plan with nutritional supplements to lower her cortisol.

According to Kolivoski, she had no idea that any of the supplements contained a banned substance until the INBA / PNBA league called her for investigation. After further investigation, Kolivoski learned that one of the dietary supplements she was using contained the banned ingredient. The same substance passed the drug test administered by USBF. However, Kolivoski now wants to educate other athletes about the potential risks of taking certain dietary supplements, especially if they play in the INBA / PNBA league and get tested by WADA.

Below is a statement by the INBA / PNBA commission dated December 23, 2021 regarding Jill Kolivoski’s failed drug test:

“INBA PNBA stands for the SMRTL (WADA Accredit Laboratory) test results for Jill Kolivoski. We were in direct contact with Jill, who took full responsibility for this result. Jill is currently suspended from competing with the INBA PNBA for five (5) years.

For decades, the INBA PNBA has trained athletes to familiarize themselves with and comply with the WADA Prohibited List and, as the market leader in this industry, retains one hundred percent transparency.

The other unfortunate part of this story is that Jill was tested by the USBF a week earlier and, unfortunately, her poor quality tests didn’t give the same results! They cleared it as negative and paid Jill her prize money. A week later, she tested positive for SARM with the INBA PNBA. It is precisely for this reason that natural bodybuilding is not taken seriously. These other so-called natural associations / organizations are doing a great disservice to athletes and the industry by tricking athletes into believing that they are being tested based on their own protocols. Polygraph, Redwood Toxicology and Quest Diagnostics are in no way capable of doing this.

This is not the first time this has happened and it will not be the last. Rest assured that the INBA PNBA will continue to treat natural athletes at Olympic level, and most importantly, will test at the same level, using only WADA accredited laboratories to ensure a level playing field in the sport of natural / verified bodybuilding. “

Generation Iron thanks Jill Kolivoski for her frank comment on the failed drug test after her women’s bodybuilding title at Natural Olympia 2021 was revoked. And we thank you for the cooperation of the INBA / PNBA League and everyone involved.
