“Because of our global presence, we know that continuing Mary Kay’s legacy of doing what is right is our moral imperative – today, tomorrow, always. We focus on efficient production operations by reducing our environmental impact and identifying resource improvement opportunities. We challenge ourselves to further embed sustainable practices in our business through product development, design, responsible sourcing and plastic pollution reduction,” said Edita Szaboova, General Manager of Mary Kay Czech Republic and Slovakia. Mary Kay Inc., a longtime sustainability advocate, preempted the event by announcing its new 2021 sustainability strategy: Enriching life today for a sustainable tomorrow. Developed with the company’s key stakeholders, Enriching Lives Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, making Mary Kay an important part of a global coalition to bring about change for a better tomorrow.

The Sustainable Future International Conference was organized by Startup Disrupt, a global marketplace for startup companies keen to help a new generation of startup founders, engineers, developers, tech innovators and others succeed. The event focused on the topics Smart Cities (infrastructure, development), electric mobility (e-mobility, energy & renewable resources, economy & policy), sustainable business (environment, taxonomy, sustainable finance) and sustainable life (agrotech, food waste, fashion disruptors, smart farming).

Speakers with different backgrounds and experiences shared their wisdom at the Sustainable Future conference, representing different sectors such as startup founders, executives from big and small companies, ministries, associations, unions, chambers, investment groups, policy makers (European Commission), academia and research institutes, universities and non-profit organizations.

“Mary Kay’s Global Sustainability Strategy, Enriching life today for a sustainable tomorrow, is anchored in the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, environmental and social,” said Edita Szaboova, General Manager of Mary Kay Czech Republic and Slovakia. “Because of our global presence, we know that continuing Mary Kay’s legacy of doing what is right is our moral imperative – today, tomorrow, always. We focus on efficient production operations by reducing our environmental impact and identifying resource improvement opportunities. We challenge ourselves to further embed sustainable practices in our business through product development, design, responsible sourcing and plastic pollution mitigation.”

“There is no planet B! We should always keep this motto in mind. Within the European Union, many companies rely on sustainable business practices. At the Sustainable Future International Conference, we showcased the best of what we have achieved here in the Czech Republic, while at the same time inspiring best practices around the world. Mary Kay, with its strong sustainability vision, is an emerging force to work with,” said Patrik Juránek, Founder and CEO of Startup Disrupt.

The next summit hosted by Startup Disrupt will take place on September 13th in the Czech Republic at the Clam Gallas Palace in Prague. The theme of the summit is Diversity, which will bring together more than 50 keynote speakers from various Czech and global brands. Speakers and thought leaders will participate in roundtables on a variety of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) topics: prejudice and microaggression; employment of people with disabilities; Inclusive design and innovation and empowerment of women to name a few. Mary Kay Inc. Global Head of Sustainability and Social Impact, Virginie Naigeon-Malek, will speak at the summit on the theme of women’s empowerment and gender-responsive procurement as a powerful strategy for inclusive sustainable growth.

“Globally, one in three companies is owned by women. Yet, on average, women-owned companies around the world receive less than 1% of all procurement spending from large corporations and governments,” said Virginie Naigeon-Malek. “These two statistics are two sides of the same coin: the shocking reality on the one hand and the enormous opportunity on the other. Effective sourcing policies and practices can be used as a powerful strategy to support women entrepreneurs in our efforts to recover from the economic impact of the pandemic and rethink business practices with a DEI mindset – to shift to inclusive growth. This massive gap in representation provides an opportunity to advance action in support of women’s businesses around the world – a unique opportunity to not only rebuild better, but most importantly, to rebuild on an equal footing.”
