TROY, NY — The Liberty League announced its weekly honorees and honored six Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes from three sports. Among them were three performers of the week, one doubles of the week and one rookie of the week.
ANDERSON BURKE (Fr., P, California, MD/St. Mary’s Ryken) – Soccer Rookie of the Week
In Saturday’s 16-13 win over Hobart, Anderson holed eight times for 316 yards, a 39.5 average, with three kicks that landed inside the 20-yard line. His attempts, most of which came in midfield, included a 63-yarder.
LORNA FLORES GONZALEZ (Sun., Sugar Land, TX/iUniversity Prep.) – Women’s tennis doubles team of the week
At the ITA National Cup in Georgia, Lorna and Nikki Ridenour won their first-round match, defeating a Bowdoin College duo in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 to advance and secure All-America status. They then faced the No. 1 team of University of Chicago sophomores Shianna Guo and Sylwia Mikos, losing a tight three-set match in the quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.
JAKE KAZANOWSKY (Sun., QB, Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) – Football Offensive Artist of the Week
Jake led a 10-play, 70-yard drive that ended with an 8-yard touchdown pass with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give RPI a 14-13 lead, and then he scored a 16 -13 lead on a 2-point conversion attempt, a result held in a home game against Hobart. He finished the game after completing 20 of 33 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns with one interception. His first touchdown also came in the fourth quarter, a 29-yard completion that put RPI within five points to 13-8. Jake also rushed for 13 yards on three tries.
MORGAN LEE (Sr., Edgewater, MD/South River) – Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week
Morgan finished second in Saturday’s 6k Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle at Dream Park, leading the Engineers to a third-place finish in the 35-school race. She ran the first mile in 5:44.7 and placed fourth in the lead group, but climbed to third in the next split. In the end, she moved up to second place with a finishing time of 21:22.0, just behind the winning time of 20:48.4. There were 308 competitors from 35 schools and RPI was only behind No. 1 SUNY Geneseo and No. 17 Carleton.
Matt Lecky (Sr., Middletown, CT/Middletown) – Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week
Matt needed an average of 4:52.8 per mile to win Saturday’s 8K Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle at Dream Park with 309 competitors. He finished the race with a time of 24:15.1 and won by 2.6 seconds. He ran the first mile at 4:41.2, which placed him behind two runners, and was at the 3-mile mark at 14:36.7. Matt took the lead in the next split and secured first place, leading the team to victory in the 35 school event.
NIKKI RIDENOUR (Fri., Minneapolis, MN/Roseville Area) – Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
