Gov. Ricketts criticizes the Biden administration’s attack on Title IX, discrimination against women
LINCOLN – Today, Gov. Pete Ricketts, along with 14 other governors, wrote a letter to President Joseph R. Biden Jr., urging him to abandon the government’s proposal to radically reinterpret Title IX.
Led by President Biden, the US Department of Education (DOEd) and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) have proposed an unscientific reinterpretation of “gender discrimination” to include “gender identity and sexual orientation.” The governors slammed the president for making rule and policy changes that would discriminate against women and endanger their safety — in direct contradiction to the original intent of Title IX.
“Bad ideas have consequences. Bad politics has victims,” Gov. Ricketts said. “I’m proud to join fellow Republican governors in supporting women and children during the Biden administration’s assault on Title IX.”
“By expanding Title IX to include gender identity and sexual orientation, your administration is putting girls and women of all ages at risk,” the governors wrote in their letter to President Biden. “The DOEd rule would force any facility receiving federal grants to allow biological males access to women’s and girls’ locker rooms, bathrooms and dormitories, thereby depriving them of privacy and security at school.” The rule ensures that a far-left ideology on gender is taught in schools across the country. And finally… the policy changes already proposed by your Government leave us in no doubt that the Department intends to eliminate fairness in girls’ sport as well.”
The governors also criticized President Biden for threatening to withhold aid for school lunches unless the schools conformed to the Biden administration’s extreme gender ideology. “To be clear, your administration would be taking lunches away from our children and grandchildren to pursue a radical agenda that has no scientific basis and is not supported by the vast majority of the American people,” the governors wrote.
Additionally, 22 attorneys general — including Nebraska AG Doug Peterson — yesterday filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration to “challenge the unlawful and unnecessary new obligations and liabilities” that the USDA has attempted to create through its “erroneous understanding” of Title IX to impose.
