VISAKHAPATNAM: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Empowerment of Women, headed by Dr. Heena Vijaykumar Gavit visited the Disha Police Station at Yendada Junction in Visakhapatnam on Saturday and interacted with the police officers concerned for information on the implementation of the Disha Law.
Andhra Pradesh Police Department Gautam Sawang, City Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha, and Disha Law enforcement officials accompanied them.
The standing committee, which came to the city on Friday for a two-day visit, visited the port of Visakhapatnam and the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), among others.
On Saturday, the committee visited the Disha Police Station, where the members were briefed on the police station and its services by the Sinha City Police Commissioner and also by ACP Prem Kajol.
Sawang explained the implementation of the Disha Act introduced by Prime Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy to protect women in the state. He informed the Standing Committee of the number of cases registered nationwide and how many women were supported by the government.
DGP Sawang also briefed the committee on other Disha police stations across the state and how they work.
