Colgate and American meet in the 2021 Patriot League Volleyball Championship game (11.20.21)


BETHLEHEM, Pa. – # 1 Colgate will host No. 4 of the Americans in the Patriot League Volleyball Championship Match 2021 on Sunday, November 21st at 4pm on ESPN +.

Colgate defeated No. 6 Navy 3-1, while No. 4 American a 3-1 win over No. 2 Lafayette won the semi-finals on Saturday.

HAMILTON, NY – Top seed Colgate secured a place in the women’s volleyball championship game with a 3-1 win over No. 6 in the Navy on Saturday afternoon.
* Colgate took sets one, three, and four, while Navy won the second set.
* Graduate student outside hitter Alli Lowe led the Raiders in Kills (18) for their 14th match this season with a double-digit kill tally.
* Lowe added 14 digs for her fifth double-double that year.
* Junior middle blocker Sophie Thompson gave all players a total of seven blocks (two solos, five assists).
* Patriot League Setter of the Year Julia Kurowski led all 40-assist players to 15 digs to mark her ninth double-double of the season.
* Navy Senior Outside Hitter Avery Stowell double-doubled with 16 kills and 11 digs, while Senior Kimberly Lynch led the Mids with 16 digs.
* Sophomore setter Averi Miller finished the match with 33 assists, while Maggie Bodman’s sophomore year middle blocker scored a total of five blocks (one solo, four assists).

HAMILTON, NY – The American No. 4 defeated on Saturday evening in the semi-finals of the League Championship No. 2 Lafayette in four sets.
* The Eagles won the second, third and fourth sets after the Leopards took a 1-0 lead.
* American junior outside hitter Zeynep Uzen led all players with 25 kills and 11 excavations. Senior middle blocker Carlie Fikse scored a total of 14 kills and two block assists.
The sophomore setter Tyra Areskoug scored 38 assists, seven digs, and one block submission, while the graduate student Libero Chiara Bosetti led the Eagles at 21 on the digs.
* Lafayette’s sophomore setter Alyssa Vitale had a total of 38 assists, nine digs and two block assists.
* Freshman Outside Hitter Abby Nieporte led the Leopards in Kills (12), followed by Senior Middle Blocker Madi Wahrmund at 11.
* Sophomore libero Katie Weston finished the match with 22 digs.
