Do you have questions about local government? Would you like to learn from department heads and other district managers? then Civics 101 is for you!
the Civics 101 Academy is a free, nine-week program held one evening per week from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. that provides participants with an in-depth look at the county’s programs, services and finances. Participants learn about the workings of the San Mateo County government primarily through presentations by department heads. After each presentation there are short questions and answers. Please see the Fall 2021 program below.

Perhaps you are simply interested in learning about how our county government works, including the wide range of services it provides to residents. Or like many previous attendees, you may choose to serve on one of the many county boards and commissions where volunteers like you work to advise the Board of Supervisors and improve our community! Or who knows, maybe your citizenship will spur you on to one day seek local elective office or to join the amazing team of dedicated county government staff who serve our community.

Civics 101 is also an opportunity for us to hear your perspective and learn from you What are your priorities for improving the quality of life for everyone on the Peninsula? What are you interested in? What are your ideas? We want to know!
