In celebration of International Women’s Day, Empower and 3R Media are presenting ReFest: #BreakTheBias at The Gray Box, GMBB on March 5th & 6th from 10am – 6pm.

The weekend-long festival includes a women-led bazaar, film screenings, performances, talks, interactive gender empowerment installations and a musical theater performance.

ReFest aims to restore a sense of empowerment and togetherness in this year’s celebration of International Women’s Day. Adopting the UN Women’s official theme for International Women’s Day 2022, #BreakTheBias, this women-led festival has been curated to actively promote women’s groups and initiatives that address social issues or support marginalized communities.

Videos, forums and talks dedicated to gender empowerment and issues will take place throughout the weekend, alongside a talented cast of local musicians.

ReFest will also feature an exclusive series of interactive installations to further encourage existing efforts by women to challenge gender bias. At the conclusion of both days, a contemporary music theater, Pulau Sri, will take over the venue and shed new light on Mahsuri folklore. The ReFest Bazaar will be adorned with a wide array of women-led local businesses, social enterprises and gender advocacy booths.

Empower Malaysia, a non-governmental organization that promotes the advancement of women’s political and economic equality towards justice and democracy, focusing on feminist and human rights principles, and 3R Media, a media production company founded to promote the importance of women’s role in of society and recognizing their ability to challenge and change the conditions of their lives and communities through the use of media, with the support of the US Embassy, ​​have joined forces in a five-month program entitled Creating Agents for Change, with the Aim to equip young gender activists to use media as a tool for advocacy. The advocacy videos produced by young gender advocates from this program will be shown to the public throughout the ReFest.
