A new program has increased the number of recently paroled people who receive driver’s licenses or state IDs by ten times, according to the State Department. It is said that 95 percent of firing officers were given an ID card or driver’s license in the past month.

More than 5,000 government ID cards and driver’s licenses have been issued to people coming out of prisons or prisons.

“What we saw is that it was immediately recognized how important these resources are and how in the past just a lack of connection to government resources prevented them from getting a job and becoming part of society,” the US said – State Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

The result is a joint program with the Michigan Department of Corrections and the Michigan Department of State.

“While this initiative removes the barrier to obtaining ID, it helps returning citizens get on the right track,” said Benson. “We also have safeguards in place to ensure people are ready prior to assuming responsibility for driving or any of the responsibilities associated with those regulations.”

The Michigan Department of State and Michigan Department of Corrections announced the joint initiative in June 2020, and it is now in full swing. MDOC helps discharge officers get the documents, records, and photos they need and forwards them directly to MDOS.

FOX 2: Michigan’s recidivism rates are at an all-time low, falling to 26.7 percent – do you attribute programs to such programs for keeping citizens returning from prison after they left? “

“Sure, all the data suggests and why this program is so important to us,” said Benson. “Once a person is given ID, having a well-paying job and everything else is often the greatest barrier to reintegration into their community and society.”

Once someone is paroled, they are given their license or ID, registered for voting unless they choose not to, and given information on how to get a job.
