Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan, actor-turned-Trinamool MPs, reacted strongly to the release of the 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano rape case amid nationwide outrage against the Gujarat government’s August 15 decision. The Trinamool leader questioned PM Modi’s Independence Day speech, the Trinamool leader said her reaction to the incident is like a woman and she is “angry and heartbroken”. MP Nusrat Jahan said women are still waiting for the injustice to end.

Bilkis Bano issued a statement saying how her belief in justice was shaken by the decision. “Two days ago, on August 15, 2022, I felt the trauma of the past 20 years when I heard that the 11 convicted men who ravaged my family and life and took my three-year-old daughter had walked free.” , Bilkis Bano said in a statement released on her behalf by her attorney, Sobha.
